Pico
Mount Pico rises to 2,351m — Portugal's highest summit. Its UNESCO-listed vineyards and some of Europe's finest whale-watching waters make it an unmissable stop.
Pico island is Portugal's highest point (2,351m) and the heart of cetacean observation in the Azores. Sperm whales frequent these waters year-round — a presence that makes every passage singular, with the constant feeling that you're never truly alone at sea.
The main anchorage is at Madalena, facing Faial, in the channel local sailors call one of the Atlantic's most beautiful corridors. UNESCO-listed vineyards extend all the way to the sea, their black lava-stone walls forming a unique mosaic between water and volcano.
From Pico, a zodiac excursion with a cetacean lookout allows you to approach sperm whales up close. An experience that stays with crews for years — watching a 15-metre animal dive beside the boat in absolute silence.
