Terceira
Its baroque capital Angra do Heroísmo is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Inside the island, Algar do Carvão reveals a spectacular underground volcanic chamber.
Angra do Heroísmo is one of the finest Atlantic cities. Its fortified seafront, colourful baroque streets, cathedral and well-maintained marina make it an unmissable cultural stopover in the central Azores triangle.
The passage to Terceira is often sailed from São Jorge — 35 to 40 miles that shape the crew. Night watches organise themselves, stars appear, the sea gains amplitude. At dawn, Angra's fortifications emerge slowly from the mist: a visual reward for the crew.
Inland, Algar do Carvão reveals a spectacular volcanic cave with its underground lake. Terceira is also known for its traditional festivities and authentic character, well off the tourist trail.

São Miguel
The largest and most populated. Ponta Delgada is the capital and ideal starting point. The twin calderas of Sete Cidades, the Furnas thermal springs and its electric-green lakes are breathtaking.
The golden islandSanta Maria
The oldest geologically and the sunniest. White sand beaches (Praia Formosa), amber cliffs and terraced vineyards. An unexpected Mediterranean flavour in the heart of the Atlantic.
The white islandGraciosa
The flattest and most peaceful of the archipelago. Windmills, vineyards and the Furna do Enxofre — a volcanic cave housing an underground lake — give it a timeless charm.
