The flower island

Flores

The westernmost island of Europe, swept by winds. Waterfalls falling into the sea, emerald-green lakes, lush vegetation — a raw and wild beauty for the adventurous sailor.

Flores is Europe's westernmost island — the last piece of land before America. The passage from Faial (130 miles) is a true offshore crossing, often the most demanding of the course. The sea takes on another dimension, the wind rises, the reality of the Atlantic asserts itself.

On the island, waterfalls fall directly into the sea. Emerald-green lakes rest in craters. The vegetation is of tropical exuberance — hydrangeas as far as the eye can see, dense forests, deep silence. An island unlike any other.

Flores is reserved for courses that prioritise adventure. The crossing is long, sometimes tough. But the arrival on this green island, after hours of Atlantic sailing, is one of the finest rewards of offshore navigation.
